Price
Is the price I see online the price I pay?
Yes, for the selections you make. After you book, nothing is added unless you ask for add-ons, or we find hidden damage on site (for example wallpaper or rot behind the paint), which we quote first and you can always decline. A person checks your room photos before scheduling, and if the photos show a materially different size or condition we explain the difference and show you the revised price before any work is booked. You can accept it, change the project, or cancel.
What is included in a room price?
Two coats of professional interior paint on all walls in one colour, standard preparation, cutting-in, protection of the work area, and cleanup. The premium paint upgrade is $85 per room. Ceilings, trim, doors, closets, stain treatment, and accent walls are priced separately so you only pay for the surfaces you want painted.
Do I have to buy a set bundle of surfaces?
No. There is one standard: two coats on the walls, plus the ceiling, trim and doors, closet or an accent wall only if you want them. Describe the job in your own words and the quote prices exactly that, line by line. Adding the ceiling opens the full colour palette; premium paint opens any colour, including a custom match, and removes the dark-to-light colour-change charge.
What can make my price go up, and by how much?
Every extra is published and shown as its own dollar line before you commit. Minor prep is $80 for a small room, $105 medium, $130 large. Going from dark walls to a lighter colour adds a colour-change charge, shown as its own line on your quote; going from light to dark has no charge. It is available once the ceiling is included and costs $95 small, $125 medium, $155 large — and the $85 premium paint upgrade removes that charge entirely, so in most rooms the upgrade costs less than the colour change it replaces and you keep the better paint. Taller walls are the one percentage: 9 ft ceilings add 10% and 10 ft ceilings add 20% of that room's walls price. Ceilings 11 ft and up, and vaulted ceilings, are priced by a painter. Each of these appears as its own line in your quote as soon as it applies.
What does a second room cost?
Less than the first, because the setup and the supply run were already paid for on room one. A small occupied room is $795 as the first room and $665 as any room after it; medium is $1,035 then $905; large is $1,270 then $1,140. This is how the rooms are priced, not a promotion, so it applies automatically. Founding customers: use code FIRST10 at checkout for 10% off your first order. One code per order. Codes can't be combined.
Do you charge extra to come to me?
Core Ottawa has no travel charge. Your postal code is checked in the quote, and anything that applies to your address shows as its own line in your price before you pay. It is never added afterwards.
Is HST included?
Prices are shown in Canadian dollars before Ontario HST. The order summary itemizes 13% HST and the total before you pay anything.
Booking
When is a deposit due, and how much?
No payment is taken when you submit your project. After a person verifies the scope, you review and accept the written contract. The deposit is then 15% of the verified pre-HST subtotal, capped at $500; the cancellation page explains the applicable terms.
When is the balance due?
After the painting is finished. Your order page shows the deposit paid, the total, and the outstanding balance throughout.
What if I need to change the date?
Rescheduling with 48 hours' notice or more is free. There are no reschedule or cancellation fees. Inside 48 hours, email us and a person will find you a new date. If we ever have to move your date, you choose the next open date or a full deposit refund, and you get $100 off your job if you keep it.
What if I need to cancel?
Cancel 48 hours or more before your start date and your deposit is refunded in full. Cancel less than 48 hours before the start and your deposit becomes a credit toward any Maple Coat job in the next 12 months. There's no cancellation fee.
What are your business hours?
Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 6 PM. Closed Sunday. Online quotes and booking are open 24/7. Our phone line, +1 (343) 843-2719, is for calls only.
Photos
Why do you need photos of my room?
Photos let us confirm the room size, condition, ceiling height, and add-ons match the real space — which is how we avoid sending a salesperson to your home and charging you for that visit inside the paint price.
How should I take the photos?
One wide photo from the doorway, another from the opposite corner, one view including the ceiling, and close-ups of holes, peeling, stains, or cracks. Turn on the lights and open the curtains.
Who can see my photos?
Authorized Maple Coat staff and the assigned crew. They are kept in private storage and are not used for marketing without your separate permission.
On the day
What preparation is included?
Standard preparation covers minor nail holes and ordinary surface preparation. Large repairs, active water damage, extensive peeling, mould concerns, or structural cracks need a person to review them before we can price the job.
Do I need to move my furniture?
Remove small, fragile, and personal items. For occupied rooms the crew shifts larger furniture to the centre and protects it.
Which areas do you serve?
Ottawa and selected surrounding communities within roughly an hour of downtown. Your quote checks your postal code for an immediate answer.
How Maple Coat works
The parts of this business that are not how painting is usually sold — and why we do them that way.
The unusual parts
Why do you publish real prices when almost no painter does?
Because the estimate visit is not free — it is paid for inside the price everyone quotes. We use defined room-size bands, a published standard scope, and listed add-ons, and the server calculates the price from your choices. You see the number before you tell us who you are, and before anyone has an incentive to talk you into more.
How can your prices be this low without cutting the work?
We removed costs that never touched your walls: commissioned sales visits, repeat manual estimating, a general-contractor markup layer, and avoidable scheduling and purchasing work. Preparation, coating standard, protection, cleanup, human verification, and the touch-up process are all still there. The paint on your wall is not where we saved money.
Why is there a curated colour palette instead of any colour I want?
A short, identified colour list means fewer ordering mistakes, less waste, and fewer repeat trips — savings that are already inside the published price. Walls-only rooms come in four stock whites, or any named colour for $85 per room (premium paint), custom matches included. Adding the ceiling opens the full palette. Either way, the colour recorded on your contract is the colour you approved.
Why does adding the ceiling now cost less than booking it later?
Because the room is already prepared and protected and the crew is already travelling to you. A separately booked return visit carries a published $195 setup charge, so the saving is a real, defined number rather than an invented discount.
Technology
Does AI decide what I pay?
No. Your price is calculated by a fixed, published price list — the same inputs always produce the same number. AI can summarize your photos and flag a missing view, but it cannot change your price. Anything uncertain or unusual goes to a person before scheduling.
Does technology replace the people?
It replaces the paperwork. Pricing, scheduling, project records, and updates are automated. A person verifies your scope, approves operational decisions, and is reachable when the project needs judgment.
Accountability
Who is actually responsible for the work in my home?
Maple Coat. Your agreement, your price, your project record, and your quality review are with us directly. We assign and manage the crew and remain accountable for the verified scope, the communication, the completion review, and any approved follow-up.
At what point is my price locked?
Once we've checked your photos, your price is locked. If the photos missed something, we tell you the new price before you book, and you can walk away at no cost. After booking, the price never goes up unless you ask for add-ons. If we find hidden damage on site, we stop and quote it first, and you can say no and keep the original job at the original price.
