Interior painting in Nepean
Most of inner Nepean was built in one burst. In the College and Knoxdale-Merivale ward areas, about half of all homes went up between 1961 and 1980. That means a lot of split-levels, bungalows and townhouses that have been repainted many times, with trim that's carried every one of them. This guide covers what that age means for prep, where the money is best spent, and what each room costs.
Barrhaven has its own guide: interior painting in Barrhaven.
What Nepean homes are like
These figures are for the College and Knoxdale-Merivale ward areas (Bells Corners, Centrepointe, Briargreen, Qualicum, Craig Henry, Tanglewood, Manordale, Parkwood Hills, Merivale Gardens and Crestview), from the 2021 census:
- About 51% of homes were built from 1961 to 1980, and about 16% before 1960.
- Only about 6% were built from 2006 to 2021, so there's very little new construction.
- About 44% are single-detached, 24% row houses and 7% semi-detached. About 24% are apartments.
- About 64% are owner-occupied and about 19% are condos.
Prep in a 1960s or 1970s house
Layers of old paint. Walls and trim that have been repainted many times often carry glossy oil-era coats under newer latex. Scuff-sanding gives the new coat something to grip, and washing and light sanding are in every room price.
Lead paint. Health Canada says homes built before 1960 probably contain lead paint, and homes built from 1960 to 1990 may have it outside and smaller amounts inside. It also advises against sanding or heat-gunning it. Homes built before 1960 get a lead paint check before any sanding. Read Health Canada's guidance and include your build year in the quote.
Small repairs. Filling up to about a dozen nail holes and dents (loonie-sized or smaller) per room is included. Anything more is a flat minor-prep line ($80 small, $105 medium, $130 large) that you see before you send anything. Holes bigger than a loonie and water damage aren't part of the standard service.
Where the money goes furthest
- Trim and doors. In older houses, yellowed baseboards and casings date a room more than the walls do. Add the trim line to the rooms you use most.
- Split-level stairways. Half-flights are easy to forget. Count each level's hallway as its own room when you describe the job.
- Townhouse condos. About 19% of homes here are condos. Check your corporation's rules on contractors before booking; they come from your own management, not from us.
Walls-only prices include four stock whites. Adding the ceiling opens our full curated palette, and the $85-per-room premium paint upgrade opens any colour, including a custom match.

Your friend gets $125 as a credit or by e-transfer, paid 7 days after your job is completed and paid in full. It's one offer per job, so it can't be combined with FIRST10 or another code.
Once we've checked your photos, your price is locked. After you book, it never goes up unless you ask for more work or the crew finds hidden damage, and then you can say no and keep the original scope at the original price.

Questions from Nepean homeowners
Is there a travel charge for Nepean?
No. K2E, K2G, K2H and K2R are on our standard-price list, so there's no travel line. Your postal code is checked in the quote before any payment.
My Nepean house was built in the 1960s. Is the old paint a concern?
Health Canada says homes built from 1960 to 1990 may have lead paint outside and smaller amounts inside, and that lead paint shouldn't be sanded or heat-gunned. Homes built before 1960 get a lead paint check before any sanding. Tell us your build year when you describe the job.
The trim in my house has been painted many times. Can you include it?
Yes. Trim and doors (baseboards, casings and up to two doors) is its own line: $240 small, $300 medium, $360 large.
What does a second room cost?
Less than the first, because setup is already paid for. A medium lived-in room is $1,035 as the first room and $905 after that.
Do I need to be home?
For lived-in rooms the crew needs access between 8 AM and 6 PM on the scheduled day. Clear small and fragile items; the crew moves larger furniture to the centre and covers it.
